Back for the second installment of my holiday cheer series…
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip was a drama series created and written by Aaron Sorkin that ran on NBC in the fall of 2006 into the spring of 2007. It followed the lives of the people involved in producing a live sketch comedy show (e.g. Saturday Night Live). It was a great show and it didn’t even last a full season. Unfortunately, I fear the writing was just too damn smart for most common TV viewers. Sad. But I digress.
Studio 60 offered some of the best TV entertainment I have experienced in the past decade and also gave me what has become my favorite version of any Christmas song ever. Studio 60’s Christmas show, aptly named “The Christmas Show”, featured a live version of “O Holy Night”, performed by displaced New Orleans musicians (remember this was only a little over a year after Katrina) and led by Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews. This magnificent rendition features soaring horn harmonies with an absolutely beautiful lead trumpet played by Trombone Shorty himself. Check it out below!
