M&T Best Tracks of 2011: #19

#19. Jay Kill & The Hustle Standard – “Howlin At The Moon”

This one sinks its hook right away. From the opening drums and whack over the head of Jake Hill’s gravelly and commanding vocals, “Howlin At The Moon” immediately pulls you in and takes you on a wild ride to the most liberating chorus of the year. The fuzzed out guitar, repetitious ivory strokes, and militant drums are beautifully layered here to create the perfect backdrop for howling vocals (literally), displaying the depth of Charley Hustle’s production skills. It’s rare that a concept is so successfully executed in song, but Jay Kill & The Hustle Standard have undoubtedly achieved that with this monster tune.
